MAPS MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUES

MAKE THE HAND MOVEMENT FLOW WITH THE MAPS TECHNIQUES

From the clinical experience of more than 25 years in hand therapy, Vicenç Punsola physiotherapist since 1996, and hand therapist since 1999, has developed the MAPS concept method of mobilization in mechanotherapy. MAPS techniques allow the structures affected by a certain movement dysfunction to be mobilized, allow the recognition of the state of the tissues to know what dose to apply, and provide the necessary resources that allow you to execute the mobilization techniques with the highest precision, applying the exact dose to restore the fluid movement of the structures of the hand.

WHY do we call it MAPS techniques?

MAPS stand for Progressive and Sequential Analytical Mobilization, a name that summarizes the essence of the technique. It is a treatment method for the functional rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity that uses mechanotherapy with the Canadian table to facilitate mobilization. This technique is born from the needs that the hand therapist may require in their clinical practice.

  • Mobilize: Get to know the normal characteristics of kinematics and kinetics so that the movement flows and offers maximum performance. Get to understand pathokinematics and pathokinetics to detect how pathological alterations of the hand are capable of altering the flow of normal movement.
  • Analyse: Get focus your mobilization techniques to the structures you decide effectively. Learn to perform the selective tension test that allows you to evaluate each and every one of the structures involved in the movement.
  • Progress: Learn to interpret the clinical signs that will help you generate the exact treatment dose so that your treatments have maximum effectiveness.
  • Sequence: Do not leave out a single detail, manage to find the correct order of exercises to reach the maximum performance of your techniques.

TRAINING IN MAPS MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUES:

MAPS mobilization techniques are more than techniques, they are a clinical synthesis that is supported by the most current quality standards.

  • The process of clinical reasoning through a good quality clinical examination.
  • Knowledge of mobilization techniques both in the field of hand therapy, as well as in contemporary manual therapy and functional rehabilitation.
  • Evidence-based medicine that allows more reliable data to be collected.

Working with the MAPS concept and the Canadian pegboard allows the creation of analytical exercises that specifically address the structures to be treated in order to achieve the desired therapeutic objectives. The mobilization techniques are oriented to cover the mechanical needs of each structure according to its biological state and the moment of injury. It allows a wide variety of intensities progressing from the softer techniques of the acute phase to the techniques with higher doses applied, for maximum efficiency rigidity based on the principles of intensity management and the increase in work time influenced by the principles of Cyriax’s selective tests, Kalternborn’s biomechanical principles, the progression in mobilizations described by Maitland and the TERT (Total End Range Time) concept described by Ken Flowers. MAPS facilitate the organization of treatment through exercise sequences that optimize session performance.

Combining mechanotherapy with manual therapy techniques is the key to treat and explore at the same time. The maximum precision in mobilization techniques is manual therapy and when we combine them with mechanotherapy, they allow us to increase the dose through time and intensity management. In this course we learn to combine them.

TRAIN WITH US IN MAPS BTR TECHNIQUES AND WITHIN JUST FIVE HOURS A WEEK FOR THREE MONTHS YOU WILL LEARN, UNDERSTAND AND BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL THE MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES, ASSISTED BY MECHANOTHERAPY. AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TREAT DEMOBILIZATION DISORDERS IN THE ELBOW, WRIST AND HAND.
