SPLINTING 360

SPLINTING, THE ORTHODONTICS OF THE HAND
From clinical experience, teaching, and research, Vicenç Punsola Izard, a physiotherapist since 1996 and a pioneer in hand therapy in Spain, has developed the ‘Splinting 360 Program.’ This is a comprehensive method of clinical reasoning, therapeutic decision-making, and technical development in splint construction. Because splinting goes beyond the personalized model construction; it is the art of knowing what the patient needs, shaping the hand with low-intensity forces applied over an extended period.

¿Why do we call it SPLINTING 360?

For many years, I have observed how conventional splinting courses have focused on the intricacies and manual dexterity of splint construction. However, I have also noticed that in most clinical cases, it requires a much deeper understanding beyond the purely technical aspects. Clinical practice is demanding and often demands a more comprehensive clinical examination to immerse oneself in the clinical reasoning process. Therapists need to understand how pathology affects hand mechanics, leading to obvious symptoms and signs. By recognizing these elements, we can see how patients require nuances to personalize splints. To be precise, professionals must design and execute a splint model that can meet the patient’s needs, whether it’s symptom neutralization, improving functionality, or enhancing range of motion.

At MAPS Therapy, we have aimed to create a practical splinting course that allows you to construct customized splints using various materials and provides you with the tools to know which models you can create, when, and how to apply them.

BECOME AN EXPERT IN HAND SPLINTING WITH THE SPLINMTING 360 PROGRAM BY MAPS THERAPY AND ACQUIRE THE KNOWLEDGE AND DEXTERITY YOU NEED TO BUILD ESSENTIAL SPLINTS IN YOUR CLINICAL PRACTICE.

Execute the technique with precision: learn all the tricks to master the material:

  • Diagnose based on needs: Typical injuries often share common characteristics, but they also have details that make them unique compared to other patients. Recognizing and understanding these features will make splinting an integrated element in the treatment, not just an object that the patient uses. At MAPS Therapy, we propose an integrated approach to splinting based on powerful diagnostic elements.
  • Develop visual construction: Splinting is the art of symptom neutralization through the application of external forces on the hand. When, through your examination, you clearly see what the patient needs, you then need to transform that position into an object that meets all those characteristics. At MAPS Therapy, we teach you to develop the clinical eye you need to develop these skills.
  • The splinting workshop, much more than thermoplastic: The art of splinting has been in practice for over 100 years, and thermoplastic was undoubtedly a revolution in its development. However, in splint construction, there are many other options that expand the range of technical possibilities. At MAPS Therapy, we will show you all these possibilities and how each material adds options in the development of orthotic treatment.
  • Splinting and the visual arts: Splint construction is an art that requires speed and precision, but it’s important to note that going fast and rushing are not the same. The learning curve is fast in splint construction if you know how to do it. At MAPS Therapy, we will show you how to make the most of your time to achieve excellent results in splint construction.
