Functional Hand

Functional disease is derived from the patient’s physical activity. This type of disease is always subject to the mechanism of injury through which it was triggered.

In this case, the mechanics will not be affected by a disease or pathology; instead, it is the same function, which bypasses the physiological limits of the structures and causes irritation to the tissues, triggering inflammation, tissue degeneration and deformity. This disease is characterised by its alteration of the mechanics to the point of causing a highly precarious and easily breakable functional imbalance.

While these diseases can initially cause discomfort, they are not incapacitating. However, if the mechanism of injury continues, alterations occur that can eventually lead to irreversible claudication of a structure.

This type of alteration is characterised for causing pain, dysfunction and deformity. Restoring the balance is a difficult task due to it having a starting point of balance very close to the limit of functional capacity.

If balance is restored, the symptoms can disappear. In this course, we will see how MAPS Therapy allows us to create exercises to restore balance through progressions and sequences adapted to these diseases.
