This 20-hour course is split over two and a half days and introduces the theoretical aspects and concepts of the MAPS method for objective assessment of hand mobility.
The training course consists of a theoretical introduction to the hand therapy assessment systems and we will then present four 4-hour theoretical and practical workshops, each with a half-hour introduction. The workshops will focus on the use of MAPS assessment tools for the elbow, wrist, fingers and thumbs, which can be integrated into the boards. As this is an essentially practical training course, it is carried out in person.
In this seminar, we will deal with how to position the stable segment and the mobile segment to perform an appropriate assessment. We will also assess how to position the dynamometers to obtain a reproducible measurement.
The practical application of this assessment system in case studies will allow us to discuss the indications and limitations of the method.
Course aims
By the end of the course, students will have access to the methodology to objectively perform an exhaustive hand-mobility assessment using MAPS Therapy as a measuring tool for:
- locating the main mechanical alterations likely to cause functional difficulties and their natural compensations;
- choosing the appropriate tools to assess the alterations detected;
- properly assembling the measurement system to ensure reproducibility of the assessment process;
- correctly interpreting the results of the assessment;
- properly communicating the results obtained, in order to send the information to the treatment team.
